What is the one big reason that stands between you and your success.

The biggest reason is your inability to take action.

Yes you have all the right intentions. You want to make it big. You must have that dream home, car, money etc. Yet you do nothing.

You spend all the time daydreaming about riches and success. Nothing is wrong with that. But continuing the daydreaming about your strategies and how you “will” do things will not kill it.  You have to actually do it.

Daydreaming is important. But more important is loving your work. Loving the action steps. In fact loving the pain. You have to love the pain while creating great things.

Action is the difference between you and the guy you see on TV. Action is the difference between the rank 1 in your field and you. If you can get your head down and push through no matter what obstacles crop up. You succeed. It is that simple.

You might ask – what about strategy, planning and competition. Somebody said one minute in planning saves 10 minutes in execution. But all that will not help if you are not executing at all.

Why execution is of paramount importance?

Talk is Cheap

Ideas are free. You will get a lot of ideas from reading this blog. But they will not help you, if you do not help yourself.

A second rate idea with killer execution always wins over a first rate idea that did not see the light of the day.

So that’s why action is very very important.

Planning is Overrated

Most of the times overplanning kills the project. It happens with me all the time. Well I am not talking about overpreparation. Your current level of preparedness is never enough. You cannot afford to take it easy. But analysis paralysis will kill your dreams every single moment.

Let’s elaborate with an example. It’s just an analogy but it applies in general to all fields.

Let’s say you want to make that new software project that will make a killing, become a huge success and change the world. You are passionate, enthusiastic and upbeat. You start planning and strategizing. You see a lot of options but are unable to choose which one. You cannot decide which platform to choose, which design to follow or for worse, you have no idea what’s your product is going to do.

Lol, then you start second guessing, putting off and doubt whether or not you will actually succeed. At last you give up.

One of your good friend says dude you should Never Give Up. You shrug off and say hey I didn’t start, so I do not have to give up. ;)

You sound cool but in reality you are a fool. You let your doubt kill you once again.

Why Strategy is simple to teach and hard to implement

Strategy is simply a course of action that gives good results. The problem is what works for someone else (given a set of conditions) may not work for you at all.

Strategy is feeling the pulse of your customers or followers. It is not to be buried under mind numbing analytical calculations that do not tell you what your customers want.

Strategy is what you look back and realise what works and what does not.

Why Execution kills Obstacles?

Sometimes we hit a wall. Sometimes we fail big. Sometimes our massive action strategy just does not work. But whatever happens if for a reason. It shows that your current course of action is buggy. You have to modify your approach or come up with a new one.

Unless you fail with a strategy you will not know what works. It is said Thomas Alva Edison failed 2500 times while making the light bulb. After 1000 failures his assistant left him. He went on and on. Then he created history. On being asked, it must have been very difficult to fail that many times. He replied that he had discovered 2500 ways that do not work.

If you take action, you know what works and what doesn’t. You see the ground reality. The learning and the lessons you learn will be with you the whole life. Failures give you wisdom. This would make the next action step filled with more wisdom.

Execution Teaches is Resilience

Resilience means hitting back and continuing no matter what it takes. Well that is taking action continuously. So what I mean to say is take action. Continue taking it. It will itself teach you everything you need to know in the long run.

Execution is Proof

The world wants results. You are judged, evaluated and appreciated on what you have done. Everybody asks about your achievements and then measures you against themselves. Your results show them what is your current status. And results don’t lie. They just show what you were in the past.

Results often don’t reflect our true potential. But mostly they show what you are capable of in future with same beliefs and levels of hard work. If you do something breathtakingly awesome, then you will have to adopt a breakthrough method.

Change Is Difficult. Everyone knows that. So what you have done is an excellent proof of what you are most of the times. If you are more than that, just do more. Do not settle for mediocrity. Just do more.

Execution is Success

What? You don’t get it?

People in general think, once they succeed they will be happy. Once they get to a certain figure all their worries will be washed away. I don’t think so. It’s our action that gives us happiness. Our action gives us a reason to live and thrive in this world. The ability to work to our fullest potential is the most important gift nature has given us.

Get Ready, Fire, Adjust Aim, Fire, Adjust Aim, Fire, Fire Again, Adjust Fire

Ready Fire Aim is the approach that works almost every time. Do not get stuck at the aim phase all the time. Take continuous action. Adjust with feedback and get ready to fire again.

Of course there are jobs like that Aircraft Traffic Controller or a surgeon or astronaut where having a high level of certainty is extremely crucial. But in fact even in those situations most times taking action is a must. Inaction would surely lead to an accident.

Since, you have reached this far. A big and hearty congratulations to you. Just do me a favour. Act on that awesome project of yours and go ahead and do it for 5 minutes. Stop reading and take action on the gig that is closest to your heart. Then come back and comment. Just remember you are awesome. :)
